Written by Brendan Williams | Aug 17, 2021 7:38:23 AM

The long awaited Children's Education and Care training package update, was released in July 2021. The package update, led by Skills IQ under the direction of Children’s Education and Care Industry Reference Committee.

The package update addressed the outcomes of a strategic review. The training package products have been updated in response to the feedback received from the Children's Education and Care consultation papers gathered alongside the thoughts from key ECEC industry and project stakeholders.

What does the release of a new training package mean?

It means that all qualifications in the community services package have been updated and the Early Childhood qualifications CHC50113 and CHC30113, are now superseded as there is an updated version of these qualification available.

What happens if I am now enrolled in a superseded qualification?

All students who are enrolled in a superseded qualification will be given an extended transition period to complete the qualification they are enrolled in. This means, they must complete the qualification they are enrolled in by January 2023.

Can I enrol in the superseded qualifications?

New students looking at enrolling in the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, can still enrol if they have credit transfers, and wish to complete the CHC30113 in 2022.

Venture Education will not be enrolling new students in to the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Education and Care, unless the student holds the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or has a minimum of 12 credit transfers.

What are the pre-requisites?

To enrol in the new CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, individuals must:

Hold CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or
CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

What units are in the new qualification?

The packaging rules for the new qualifications are:

CHC30121 - Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
15 Core Units
2 Elective Units
Work placement hours 160 hours

CHC50121 - Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
12 Core Units
3 Elective Units
Work placement hours 280 hours

What is a transition period?

A grace period given to students enrolled in superseded qualifications to finish the qualification they are enrolled in. The standard transition period is 12 months unless we're advised otherwise by ASQA.

What if I don’t finish during the transition period?

You will need to cancel out of the current qualification and transition/enrol into the new qualification. Limited if any credits will apply between old and new qualifications and extra costs will be incurred during this process.

What if I don’t think I will finish the Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113) during the transition period?

You may consider changing your enrolment and considering the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113), as this will be a prerequisite for the new Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50113).

Can I still work in the early childhood industry with the superseded qualifications?

Yes, all superseded early childhood qualifications will still be approved by ACECQA for the purpose of working in the industry.
